The use of asbestos in industries such as building construction, shipping, railways and other industries have been considered to be of great significance and usefulness through. It has also been used extensively in industries through the later part of the 18th century and throughout most part of the 20th century, and is still continued to be used, regulated by laws, in industries where its use is considered to be of great importance.
Need for asbestos laws
The main reasons why asbestos serves as an industrial material are its durability, resistance to heat and electricity and it being a light weight material. However, since asbestos comes with deadly health hazards for those who are exposed to it on a long term basis, there have been laws which were introduced in the American constitution to prevent workers from acquiring deadly diseases such as mesothelioma, lung cancer and asbestosis.

Most of the diseases take years to show signs, and more dangerously as a passive problem which allows normal functioning of the victim initially. Government actions have been frequent in countries outside the US as well. It is a major source of concern for governments if innocent factory workers are made to suffer from fatal diseases as a result of earning their livelihood. Like the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) in the USA, there are authorities in different countries which see to the regulation of asbestos laws and their implementation in companies and factories. This is a basic guideline for companies to abide by, and failure to do so can entail severe steps against them. It has also been observed that companies have gone bankrupt in the past due to heavy compensation payments to their affected employees. This is one of the reasons why companies have recently been known to deny claims made by affected employees forcing them to go through litigation.
